[Moon] Now going technical again...

Gents,

for my 10G focus box I am thinking of saving a bit of weight by
substituting a relatively heavy wg switch as an isolation relay for the wg
lna by simply shorting the wg between the lna and the septum RX-output
(yessss, going circular, someone has to, it is overdue...). Commercial
devices are around, I know, but hard to get your hand on. I recently got a
very nice 12VDC solenoid with a sufficiently long stroke, so I will perhaps
try to build a shorting device on my own.
Now my question: if I have a metal rod protruding the center of the broad
side of a WG90, does it have to electrically contact the opposite wg side?
What diameter should I choose for the metal rod? Are 2 rods in a
1/4-lambda-wg-distance giving any advantage in achievable attenuation? How
much attenuation can I expect, at all, by a simple rod merging into the wg?

Any experience out there? Every advice is very welcome,

73 de Michael
