Hi John, Great to hear that you are QRV on 9cm, and thanks for making the recordings. The dish looks terrific. I think Al K2UYH uses offset on the same dish but I know that Al W5LUA uses 6 deg offset on his 5m solid one, He told me that he sees16.2dB at SF121 and 0.8dB moon.
If you are using the latest version of EMECalc the moon noise calcuation is now pretty accurate as it takes into account moon temperature and phase variations as well as distance of course. But you need to measure it accurately ( obviously) as its a smaller number but an 96kHz SDR with Spectravu continuum and smoothing will get you to +/-0.05dB. That gives a pretty accurate G/T. The sun noise calculation accuraccy depends on the accuracy of the sunflux extrapolation but most people seem to report getting to within about 1-2dB on sun noise. Listening to my signal recording I would guess you will be able to hear comfortably everyone who is currently QRV! I would also guess you can get another 2dB on the system G/T though.
My numbers are 18.75dB sun noise SF127 Moon 1.23dB at 06.40 on 09-08-15 . 6m mesh dish, SM6FHZ design Kumar feed, HB G4DDK preamp 0.5dB and 90W at feed.
I had 10 sets of moon /sun noise sent in for the AW, currently working on those and will send to Al for next NL.
SP/OK1EME will be QRV on 15th August on 3.4 so there will be activity then.

Hi Peter and Al,

I was SWLing on 3400 Sunday and heard G3LTF, K2UYH and HB9Q. Feed was placed adjacent to W2IMU 23cm feed with some predictable skew to the beam. Sun noise 15.6 dB measured 8 Aug with sf=127 is off VK3UM prediction by at least 3 dB. Moon noise about 1.0 dB at best so I think there is improvement to be made. Wonder how that shortfall compares to others with compromise feed locations. Ant is 8.4m 0.43 f/d feed septum with scaler ring, LNA 0.7dB at feed. The box with the TX and up/downconversion was in the shelter at the tower base not at the feed. Hope to have it in place sometime soon.

Thanks for promoting this AW.

Subject: [Moon] G3LTF 9cm AW second pass

Most contacts on day 2 were on SSB. I worked OK1KIR, PY2BS, LX1DB and W5LUA . On CW I worked PA7JB, W5LUA and OZ6OL. I ran a test with G4DDK and he just copied my SSB enough to get both calls even though I had about 20% of the dish obscured at the time.( This is what AWs are for) also heard were OH2DG, WA6PY, K2UYH, PA0BAT, SM9PGP and G4NNS.. On the second day I ran my G4DDK preamp with an MGF4941 which got me another 0.4dB sun noise.
My thanks to everyone who made noise measurements, I will publish results, as for 6cm, in the 432 and above NL.
Thanks for all the fun EME
