[Moon] 2304 / 2320 this coming weekend

Great Steve, The 13cm feed position will be " sharper" than the 23cm. Way to
do it is to make sun noise measurements every 1" through the region of the
focus and plot the curve. My dish has a fixed error on the surface ( when I
cut the jig for the ribs I forgot to allow for the mesh thickness) plus
there are still some residual alignment errors and the "focal point" moves
quite smoothly with frequency from 23cm to 6cm by about 52mm ( ~2")
GL with the echoes... they will be there!

Hi Peter et all
I put the VE4MA 13 cm feed with the choke ring on the bore site & removed
the 23 cm feed. 4.9 meter / 16 foot dish. FD = .3
My dish is a conversion of an original 12 foot dish to 16 feet in diameter
by the manufacturer. I suspect the design is responsible for the fact I can
never quite see the sun noise I think I should see. It's always about 1 db
low on 23 or 13 cm. Focal point is that of the original 12 foot dish. They
just extended the diameter. Curvature errors??????
I am seeing about 14.5 db sun noise now which seems low but it's a whole lot
better than it was at 10-11 db.
I had the 13 cm feed nested in the 23 cm choke ring before. It worked but
not very well. Worked about 12 stations but never heard an echo.
130 watts or so at feed. I'll bet I can hear echoes now. I'll try today when
my moon clears the trees to my east.
I can get on this weekend. I lost the ability to find the moon with the 23
cm beacon which helped a lot but I can still find it.
The focal point seems to have moved out abt an inch from where the 23 cm
feed peaked. Lots of variables. It may be the 23 cm was not optimum.. Anyone
know why it would move????
I'll be on the HB9Q from now through the weekend.
I am going to pick up the UHF TV transmitter which the famous K5SO converted
to 23 cm next Wednesday.
He no longer wants it so I made a deal with him to buy it.
K5SO offered me a free 15 foot dish but I don't need it or have room for it.

Hi Gentlemen

I have improved my 13 cm feed and I am seeing 4 db more sun noise.

I will be QRV on 13 cm this weekend . I can receive on 2304 and 2320 with
more bands soon.

Look for me on the HB9Q chat site.
