I think that this does not warrant further discussion. It is obviously utter nonsense . I will just put it down as another one of those American ‘oddities’.

Wayne thanks for doing it properly.

Joop and all

Well the last day on moon-net makes for interesting reading. Some very valid points.

I normally do not respond to emails like this. However......

Nothing aimed towards the operators out in the field.I congratulate them for getting out there and operating. Not with the comforts of a home shack, the amount of equipment needed...... It is much fun - I know.

More aimed at the reason behind the appearance of this ARRL based rule. Hasn't always been there Also seems it is a rule in the US not in Europe, VK,ZL and others

As a portable EME operator I would never have thought you could claim more than 1 grid per QSO. Seems an impossibility. Both physically and how many grids you can transmit in a TX period.

I then see [highlighted by others] the ARRL VUCC rules allows this [4 General Rules (e)]

How many multiple nights that I had a split sleep or lack of sleep to activate a grid that was close to another, when that all could have been saved. Especially when on a work trip, having also to perform my day duties as well as driving etc

So if one grid is transmitted, then how is the QSO partner able to tell if it is valid for 1, 2 or 4 grid locations, and to which ones. Other than by means of the internet, and not by means of the Radio. So then is it a vaild Radio QSO??

How do you know if it is not a new home station [new call/initial], or do you just go ahead and claim 3 other grids. Unless somewhere on the internet [Twitter, MMM, Facebook, Email, Loggers.......] they inform you it is for only one grid.

UNLESS multiple QSO's are had with you with the other grid locators in the TX messages.

That will solve all confusion.

Maybe I am missing something. Am I??? It's not the first time and it wont be the last time.

But most importantly have fun and enjoy the Moon

Regards

Wayne
