[Moon] [Moon-Net] very unfair rules from ARRL :-(

There are a lot of simple changes that could be made if someone would just do it.

For instance, we don’t really need two weekends for 1296 and down.

But we need more than one weekend for 2304 and up. As often has been pointed out, for many stations, it is not simple to change feedhorn and equipment in a few hours. There would be more activity on other bands if we had more time to change and optimize our equipment.

As it is now, you have to choose one band and ignore the others.

I have a lot of expensive equipment that I cannot use during the contest because I need more time to set it up.

Personally, I am happy with the rules as they are but when I move up to 70 and 23cms I would like to be able to compete in a mixed section. I am happy to have both CW and DIGI QSOs. Unless I misunderstood that is currently not possible. I was attempting to keep the peace. Not all CW operators are opposed to DIGI QSOs. What will be will be. By your reasoning, a CW station should be awarded more points because it is harder to make contacts with CW. By that reasoning, I should get more points when I work a station running a single Yagi antenna and 300 watts, than when I work an easy contact with a guy running a KW and 4 antennas. And by that reasoning there is no end. Should a guy with a small setup have a point advantage because it is harder to make contacts. Should HB9Q get a point penalty because it is so easy for him to work many stations? How about those of us who live in a high noise urban or city area – certainly the rules are ‘unfair’ for them… No, the rules are the rules, and everyone is treated equally. That is fair. 73, Russ K2TXB From: Moon-net <moon-net-bounces at mailman.pe1itr.com (mailto:moon-net-bounces at mailman.pe1itr.com)> On Behalf Of Conrad PA5Y via Moon-net Sent: Tuesday, December 01, 2020 9:35 AM To: 'moon-net at mailman.pe1itr.com (mailto:moon-net at mailman.pe1itr.com)' <moon-net at mailman.pe1itr.com (mailto:moon-net at mailman.pe1itr.com)> Cc: moonbounce_info <moon at moonbounce.info (mailto:moon at moonbounce.info)> Subject: Re: [Moon-Net] very unfair rules from ARRL :-( As one who is active on 2m I have no choice but to use JT65B during the ARRL contest. I totally agree with Jac that incentives for CW and SSB contacts would be of great benefit. As it stands there is no incentive whatsoever for CW QSOs on 2m and that is a shame, because I could have CW QSOs and would like to. I have always preferred CW but there is no one to work on 2m anymore. I am looking forward to getting on 70cms and 23cms next year! In keeping with the current ARRL scoring of 100pts per QSO I suggest: DIGI 100pts CW 200pts SSB 300pts Then a mixed mode contest would make much more sense. I urge the ARRL to consider this, it would retain people who prefer CW and reward those who have built good enough stations to have SSB QSOs. At the very least SSB and CW should be differentiated from DIGI QSOs. The level of difficulty should be rewarded. 73 Conrad PA5Y _______________________________________________ Moon mailing list Moon at moonbounce.info (mailto:Moon at moonbounce.info) /mailman/listinfo/moon Join eQSL.cc (http://eQSL.cc) https://eqsl.cc/qslcard/Index.cfm _______________________________________________ Moon mailing list Moon at moonbounce.info (mailto:Moon at moonbounce.info) /mailman/listinfo/moon Join eQSL.cc (http://eQSL.cc) https://eqsl.cc/qslcard/Index.cfm
