I have WSJT-X vers 2.2.2 installed and under JT65 there is no SH box. I did
go into the individual message boxes and type in the short hand messages by
hand and they played when I hit execute Tx, so guess that will work. But
they are not saved if you restart WSJT-X.

I seem to remember Marshall - K5QE saying you needed to check Contest Mode,
but EME Contest is not listed under advanced set up. Clicking the box and
enabling NA VHF does not change the messages.

Is this just a bug in this version? I am hesitant to download vers 2.3 as
it is a beta-version (which might have bugs).

I also have WSJT-10 installed so can resort to running it.

Well, no more confusion than there has been for years. The option of
report of Sh message has been there at least since v1.7 (maybe earlier?) and
that was released 4 years ago. Some people use Sh, some don't. The Sh
messages are better if signals are very weak. Chose the message format that
best fits the conditions. Chose the long or short form message as
appropriate. It's not hard to switch or even to mix the two

Anyone still using WSJT10 on 1296 and up should probably think
seriously about moving to WSJT-X (though not right before a contest since
WSJT-X requires a bit of learning!).

CW has the same issue. Some people send RST, some send OOO. I'd
prefer OOO in the case of CW since my CW skills are limited but on 1296, RST
seems to be the default, so that's what I normally use when replying to a CQ
and normally expect to be listening for. OOO certainly would not confuse me!

Okay I see now. There is a block Sh. That changes the messages. I
thought that block only worked in QRA64.

I still think there will be confusion.

There is a contest coming up next weekend. It looks to me
like there is going to be a mess. Some operators are still using WSJTV10
and some are using WSJT 2.2 or 2.3. They have different message packages.
When I send a message and do not get the expected return, it causes
confusion. Okay, maybe I can figure it out, but can't we all get on the
same messages?
