The aggressive decode has no magic number it really depends on your receiving system. You will have to experiment. I get the odd false decodes but they are so obvious that I do not bother. Mine is set up at 9. Yours may be different

Subject: [Moon-Net] Map65 vs WSJTX controls.

Hi All.

Well my EME array is ice covered for some 5 days now so I am not QRV, but I do have WSJTx set up connected to my Yaesu FT736r. It has a dual polarity switch for RX. This is in parallel with the IQ+, Delta44 and Map65. I am set up to make some basic comparisons for myself. I'm trying to get a handle on all the controls that might affect decode sensitivity in each program. Maybe you have some ideas from first hand experience.
Here is what I have found to be the differences in the controls between Map65 and WSJTx.

1) Aggressive Deep Search. Map65 is on or off while WSJTx is 0-10. I wonder which number is the setting used for Map65? I am trying 10 until I find a reason to back it down.

2) Random pattern erasures. Map65 does not have a setting for this. I wonder what is being used? WSJTx has 0-10. I use a setting of 7. Any longer than that and my i3 Laptop takes too long to decode.
Random trials. Bigger numbers are a bit more sensitive. Good for tweaking to your CPU vs decode speed.

3) Two pass decoding. Map65 has no control. I don't understand this parameter. WSJTX has on/off for this parameter. WSJTx manual says for VHF/UHF, just don't do it.

4) Sync. Map65 has no control for this. What is its setting? WSJTx has a front panel control with a range of -1 to +10 (default 0). It says lower numbers accept weaker sync signals. Seems like this should have a direct bearing on sensitivity.

5) Enable AP - Uses information gained in previously decoded messages. Map65 has no controls for this Default ON? WSJTX has on/off switch.

6) Enable averaging. Map65 has no switch for this. I think it has averaging. WSJTx has an on/off switch for this.

7) Clear average buffer. Map65 does not have this. Perhaps it is needed. WSJTx has a button to clear the average buffer.

All of these could make a difference. Perhaps Aggressive Deep Search level and Sync level is significant for sensitivity. If any of this is wrong or can be improved on, feel free to enlighten me.
